The world has been turned upside down and with it the sports events we love so much. Even though several sporting events were canceled, there are still a few news stories that have marked 2020 for the history books.
The COVID-19 Pandemic
The novel coronavirus hit us out of the left field and the world is still spinning.
With new regulations and an attempt to slow down the spread of the virus, many events were canceled. Some continued without spectators, but it is not quite the same. 2020 will be an interesting entry in the history books.
Sports Stars Who Passed Away
We have lost many legends this year, so far. One player we all know very well was Kobe Bryant. The Lakers shooting guard was killed in a helicopter crash in January. Other losses include Tom Seaver, Ricky Dixon, John Thompson, Chadwick Boseman, and Johnny Majors, among others. We lost many greats in 2020.
Epic Wins
Rafael Nadal wins his 20th major title by beating Novak Djokovic in the French Open. Lewis Hamilton reaches 91 Formula 1 wins, just like Michael Schumacher. Sei Young Kim wins her first golf major in the women’s PGA. Some more great wins are coming. Many tournaments and seasons were postponed but are now starting up again.
Despite all the chaos that the pandemic caused, there have been quite a few stand-out moments in 2020 so far. We are expecting some more great and exciting news. We are also looking forward to hearing what will happen with other postponed sports events like the Olympics and several Grand Prix’s. We will of course bring you all the news as it happens.
